Hassaku no Uma-dashi
Hassaku no Uma-dashi: A Parade of wooden horses for the good health of children
This is a very rare event in which models of white horses are built and paraded throughout the streets to commemorate the birth of children. These white horses, called “Hassaku no Uma,” have been made in various sizes since the Edo period (1603–1868). With a wish for children to grow up in good health, these white horses are slowly paraded through the lively streets of Tomonoura.
